A way for ordinary people to highlight places that they would like to see new buildings

Build Here is a new #PlanTech concept by Participatr, showing how technology can be used to find where there is public support for new buildings

Visitors to the Build Here website can drop a pin on an interactive map to highlight a location, anywhere in the UK, where they think something should be built, using their smartphone, tablet or PC. This includes new homes, community buildings, footpaths, sports facilities or culture and arts venues.

As a citizen is passing by a potential development site, they can pull out their smartphone and visit Build Here on their mobile browser. The web-based app automatically drops a pin at their current location. They can then include a few words explaining why this is a good place for a building, how tall it should be and a photo to help make the case.

As soon as they click 'Submit', their suggestion is then available for the world to see on the interactive pinpoint map, including politicians, civil servants and policymakers.

When someone else sees their suggestion and agrees that it is a good idea, they can click 'Agree'. Observers can then gauge the strength of support for a particular type of development in this location.

The Build Here web-based app will be on display at the #PlanTech18 exhibition at Future Cities Catapult from 18-22 June 2018, as part of PlanTech Week 2018.
