We combine our powerful digital tools with vast experience of collaborating with communities
Participatr was established in 2016 to create accessible and un-intimidating ways for ordinary people to influence and shape built environment projects.

We’re not here to make things digital for the sake of it. Our aim is to make the complex simple, the inaccessible accessible and the unfeasible feasible, creating engagement opportunities that weren’t there before.

We also know from over 10 years’ experience of managing complex engagement programmes that slick websites and digital tools are just one part of the equation. We always combine our digital tools with local insight, targeted outreach and one-to-one conversations to involve the people that matter.
Who are we?
Paul Erskine-Fox founded Participatr in 2016. Since then, he has worked with a wide network of trusted built environment professionals, technologists and civic leaders to innovate, develop and deploy Participatr's engagement websites and inventory of digital tools.

After working at one of 22 public-private Urban Regeneration Companies (URCs), set-up in the late 1990s to achieve radical transformation of urban areas across the UK, Paul moved into private practice to help housebuilders, local government and communities achieve positive outcomes through the planning system. After developing a specialism in engaging diverse and hard-to-reach urban communities, he moved on to advise a global multi-disciplinary firm on engagement activities around transport improvement, large-scale energy and Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs).

Since Participatr's inception, Paul has advised BEIS, MHCLG and the Mayor of London on the use of tech in planning and regularly provides training on engagement best practice through professional body PTRC. He counts professionals from Transport for London, the Scottish Government, the Department for Transport, Highways England and several local authorities among his training delegates.

With his Participatr hat on, Paul has successfully partnered with planners, urban designers, architects and communications specialists to create a digital facet to their engagement activities, with a demonstrable track record of scaling community involvement and building public support for projects across the built environment spectrum.

What is the industry saying?
"Participatr is particularly good at capturing sentiment, using maps to which consultees can pin comments. These can be instantly seen by everyone – 'real-time' feedback that lends its strength."

"Participatr creates interactive online tools for town planners working on development frameworks and sustainable transport plans to gather ideas, issues and feedback from the public, including vulnerable and harder-to-reach groups."

"Participatr creates interactive online tools for town planners, architects, developers, local government, others to gather ideas, aspirations and feedback on built environment projects, designed to overcome the real-life barriers that ordinary people face when getting involved in the planning process."

"Now companies such as Participatr have developed online consultation tools that allow for participation at any time from any location, allowing engagement of a wider range of audiences, covering even those hard-to-reach ones."
