What was the brief?
Cambridge East is the redevelopment of Cambridge Airport, creating a new urban quarter that transforms the east of the city, delivering new homes, jobs, facilities, infrastructure, and opportunities for Cambridge. Marshall is developing a vision for the site to make sure it becomes an extraordinary place for future generations.
Marshall emabrked on a comprehensive programme of community and stakeholder engagement to help shape the plans as they move forwards, and a requirements of this engagement programme was an interactive digital platform to initially gather community ideas and suggestions for the site, as well as gauge local priorities.
What did we do?
Participatr was commissioned as part of the engagement team to create a digital platform, which featured an interactive map to capture place-based ideas and suggestions, as well as a series of mini-surveys to help understand wider aspirations for the site.
A strong brand was created for the project, which was seamlessly embedded into the Participatr platform, using bespoke colours, fonts, graphics, logos, icons, and a wireframe animation as the website's 'hero' image.
The mini surveys were designed to capture data on community aspirations on topics such as urban design, environment and economic considerations, with a range of open text, multiple choice and image-selector questions. Alongside this, key demographic information was captured from participants to understand the who was responding to the consultation and their role in the community.
What was the outcome?
- Over 400 interactions were made through the Cambridge East platform, including 56 map-based comments and 76 'agreements' with comments made by others
- The platform was visited by 6,254 people
- 47% of visitors used mobile devices, such as smartphones or tablets
